SoBi’s brilliant idea was to put the “brains” of its bike sharing system into the bike itself. Every bike comes with an integrated GPS-enabled locking mechanism.
It makes sharing super flexible. Riders can return a bike at a hub location or any public bike rack.
Atlanta’s bike share program is a private-public partnership. Businesses can support the program through sponsorship, adopt-a-station or the purchase of memberships.
Mayor Kasim Reed wants to double bicycle-to-work commuters from 1.1% to 2.2% by 2016.
The program is expected to launch later this year.
Chalk this up as another win for Founder and CEO Ryan Rzepecki.
