Dear Startup Investor:
I’ve probably seen dozens of e-commerce services launched by startups over the last year.
None come close to NetPlenish’s. It’s a great idea backed by uber-successful entrepreneur Steve Markowitz. He already led one startup to over a $2 billion market capitalization.
That was when he was CEO and chairman of the board of MyPoints. And now he’s using the same formula to hit the jackpot again…
He begins with an idea that consumers can’t resist.
With MyPoints it was helping shoppers capture loyalty points. With NetPlenish it’s letting consumers get the cheapest price for the product they’re searching for online.
The remarkable thing with both ideas is that they appeal just as much – if not more – to retailers.
The next step is charging these retailers a fraction of the cost they have been spending on getting customers.
And the final step is executing the idea with great technology and aggressive low-cost marketing.
It’s a proven strategy: 1. Save consumers money. 2. Charge the retailers low fees to participate. And 3. Aggressively execute.
It’s made Steve one of Silicon Valley’s most imitated entrepreneurs.
This time around, I’d like you to benefit from Steve’s proven formula and entrepreneurial expertise.
So what do consumers hate when they shop? Well, what’s worse than paying more for a product than you have to?
And what do retailers hate? How about throwing a sale or advertising low prices and having barely anybody notice.
NetPlenish takes both these off the table is one fell swoop.
Here’s how its idea works…
NetPlenish tracks consumers as they view shopping websites. Now, you may not know this, but 98% of the time, shoppers leave a website without making a purchase.
But retailers know this. And many target these shoppers, urging them to visit the site again and take advantage of their low prices.
It’s a pretty effective way to reach customers. So retailers spend quite a bit of money on these “retargeting” advertising campaigns.
But what if there’s a lower price out there? As a shopper, wouldn’t you want to know?
And as a retailer, wouldn’t you want to reach those shoppers and let them know your price is lower?
But “retargeting” can’t do that. Remember, it can only reach out to customers who have already visited the retailer’s shopping site. NetPlenish gets around this.
It targets customers who have visited the shopping sites of competitors (Merchant A in the chart below) and lets them see the lower-priced product being offered by another retailer (Merchant B below).
What I really like about this technology is that NetPlenish does this in a non-obnoxious way for consumers. Ads on the better-priced products begin appearing on the sites you open as you surf the web.
Real Traction, Low Price and Big Market
NetPlenish has been recently growing its users – I’m referring to the retailers it has signed up – at between an 82% and 103% month-over-month rate. It now has over a million shoppers in its database along with over 15 million products offered by more than 14,000 retailers. (It also accumulated its massive shopper list at near-zero cost per shopper!)
That’s great traction for a company that launched in the spring of last year.
And shopping site downloads are growing exponentially. Crossrider develops many
popular browser shopping extensions. It says that downloads are growing by 1.8 million a day.
As for price…
Retailers are used to paying $0.70 costs per click when they use Google Adwords.
NetPlenish charges just $0.05 to $0.20 for the equivalent (technically, each pixel insertion).
How to Invest
NetPlenish raised $1.9 million in May 2013. It’s now raising another $1.5 million in a second seed round. For this round, NetPlenish is being valued at $7.5 million. Its lead investor is Eric Manlunas (Founder of Siemer Ventures, Frontera Group LLC, Sitestar, Interfoods). Other investors include 500 startups (Dave McClure’s outfit) and, notably, Best Buy.
