I wanted to provide a quick update on our pre-IPO investment opportunity. So far, our members have invested more than $3 million.
Our partner, MicroVentures, was able to open a second fund to accommodate members and we’re in the process of launching a third. Each fund can accommodate only 99 investors due to SEC regulations, but due to strong demand from our members, we were able to make additional spots available.
The first fund has acquired shares in four top-notch pre-IPO companies, while the second has invested in three of the same companies. Due to the timing of fund closings and share availability, each fund will have a slightly different makeup.
I’m very excited about all the companies. They’re fast-growing, innovative and set to IPO in the next one to two years. Unfortunately, we can’t provide company specifics until the investments are complete. As soon as we can, we’ll let you know.
What I can say is this: The IPO market continues to impress. Just last week, Lending Club, a peer-to-peer lending platform, IPO’d at $15. By the end of the first day, it was trading around $23. Today it trades at $25.
Investors who bought shares pre-IPO in April of this year acquired them at $10.07, as shown here. That’s a 150% gain in about eight months. The IPO market for hot tech companies isn’t slowing down, and we plan to capitalize on it.
