Understanding the Federal Reserve

As most of you know, I’ve been studying the Federal Reserve for many years. I first became interested in the Fed during the 2008 global financial crisis.

I began by reading articles by Bill Bonner, and I was quickly hooked on Austrian economics. It changed everything about my view on the economy.

Understanding the Federal Reserve is critically important to understanding why cryptocurrency is so important.

And you can’t really learn about the Fed and monetary policy through mainstream outlets like CNBC. So today, I’m sharing some of my favorite books and resources on the topic.

Let’s get started.

End the Fed by Ron Paul – I believe this book is the best introduction to the Fed and its flaws. Written by former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul in 2009, End the Fed explains in very plain and easy-to-understand terms why the Fed is so dangerous and disruptive to the real economy. Highly recommended.

Interview with G. Edward Griffin – In this interview, G. Edward Griffin, author of the excellent book The Creature from Jekyll Island, discusses the roots of the Fed, its real purpose and much more. Griffin is one of the most knowledgeable resources around about the Federal Reserve. And if you like the interview, I strongly recommend reading the book.

Mises Institute – The Mises Institute is a treasure trove of articles and resources for those interested in learning about Austrian Economics. Austrian Economics is far outside the mainstream – and for good reason. This school of thought argues in favor of hard money, small government and economic liberty.

Why the Federal Reserve Is Monetizing America’s Debt” – This recent article by Tom Dyson explains how we’ve entered a dangerous new era in monetary policy.

That’s a good amount of material to get started. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Fed, these resources will provide you a much better understanding of what’s happening today – and why it’s going to change the world so dramatically. The Fed has sent us on a path of printing trillions and trillions of dollars, and I don’t think there’s any way that’s going to change over the next few years.

If you don’t have time to read this stuff, the short version is this: Buy gold, buy bitcoin. We’re headed for uncharted waters, and it’s likely to get volatile.
