I am a long-term investor. I make investments while expecting to hold them for at least 10 years.
But I do plan on selling some crypto during this bull market at some point. I may sell as much as half.
But I don’t think we’re even close to topping out for this cycle. I can say that confidently for bitcoin. But I’m not as confident about altcoins. I expect Solana, Avalanche and the other new Ethereum competitors to continue doing well. They have major potential to transform the financial markets. But it’s going to be a rough ride in terms of crypto regulation.
Bitcoin has fundamental catalysts that could drive it for the next five years or more: money printing and inflation. It’s possible that bitcoin’s bull run will last throughout (with local peaks and tops).
I think bitcoin will probably go to at least $150,000 this cycle. I may sell some at that point or before. But I will always hold on to half for the long run.
Timing exits is hard. It’s best to do it slowly and sell in multiple (5 or more) batches. That way you’re unlikely to time it horribly.
These are good things to think about during a bull market. Because once it really gets going, euphoria takes over. Investors start to think they’re geniuses and plan to never sell. Recognize that feeling once it comes, and maybe take a little profit (if you’re planning to).
