It’s been an amazing year in crypto! We had a nasty dip in the spring — followed by a roaring comeback once people realized crypto was created for these economic times (massive money printing and even lower interest rates).
Things are truly starting to get interesting now. Our long-awaited institutional rush into crypto is finally underway — and I expect it will continue for a long time to come. Bitcoin continues to lead the way, but altcoins are becoming increasingly attractive.
Take a look at our longtime portfolio holding Haven Protocol (XHV), which started the year off around $0.18. It’s now trading around $3.62 as I write this on New Year’s Eve. This remains one of my favorite speculative plays. It’s a truly tiny coin at just a $51 million market cap. And it could go a LOT higher. Needless to say, XHV is a speculative play, but I do love the risk/reward ratio here.
I still believe strongly that Bitcoin should form the basis of any crypto portfolio (at least 50%), but I am starting to pay a lot more attention to the alts. I think we’ll find some very worthy (and hopefully lucrative) picks in 2021.
Twitter, by the way, continues to be my favorite source for crypto news. If you haven’t signed up for a Twitter account yet, I highly recommend it. Whatever you’re into, you can find similar people on Twitter. In the crypto world, Willy Woo is a great follow, and he’s the most accurate fundamental analyst I know of. Nick Szabo is another must-follow. He’s been deeply involved in crypto since before Bitcoin came along. Take a look at who these two people follow and you’ll be well on your way to building a great crypto Twitter feed. You can also follow me here.
